Most of those are brutal!!! The low rider looks to have more damage than that pole could cause.

Unless you are going to wear your helmet and 5 point harness, you are safer without a cage on the street. The only reason I have a cage in my car is for structural purposes. I really hope I never have an accident on the street, roll cage tubing will leave quite the mark on your head (if you're lucky ).
I look at it from the standpoint that the offending vehicle won't intrude as far into the tin sides of the Camaro if there's at least some structural member(s) between the tissue thin door and me.
At least I'm hoping the rigidity of the cage will cause the entire car body to move more or less together, instead of smooshing inward like a bubble on impact.
One of the reasons I used heavy duty 3\4" bolts with reinforcing plates to bolt the frame to the body is to keep them together also. I know all about shear strength... but they're far better than the dinky bolts the factory used.

If an accident is going to cause your head to hit a cross bar, it's going to smack the roof anyway... bar or not.
Everyone already knows how low and tight these old car roofs are.
