I want to sand blast and paint the original air cleaner on my 69. What would be the right shade and gloss of black to use on this?

Thanks.

If its not in too bad of shape, you can probably just scuff it then paint. If there are a few nicks/scratches in the paint, sand/feather them out.

If you have access to a blasting cabinet, thats usually the best way to go if it needs it IMO.

Not positive, but I thought both base and lid were the same gloss. I think it was a little glossier than 60%. My air cleaner was an unmolested original. Too far gone to not repaint, but we found some areas that weren't faded, and the painter had some paint that seemed to match the gloss pretty well.

BTW, we taped off the original "REAR" sticker and left it on the sealing ring. It's yellowed and faded, and doesn't match the other stickers on the car, but I thought it would look cool anyway.

I agree with Unreal, my air cleaner base still retains the pretty mint original paint, and i would say that it is at least 80% gloss.
Also i would say IMO that the sealing ring and lid were not as glossy.
Hope this helps. Mike.
