Hello all, attached are some pictures of my first sheetmetal repair. I had a few thinning spots in one corner of the trunk and decided to try my hand at some sheetmetal work.
This trunk inside and out will be heavily coated with a rhino liner type product and the inside will also have a layer of dynamat over it which is why I decided to try and repair it myself as opposed to hiring a professional like I normally would do.
From the pictures you can see I cut out the rot back to good metal, I cut a patch piece from a new trunk pan, I trimmed the patch piece to fit in the cutout section and I welded it in. Ive started to grind on the inside and have it relatively smooth but am worried about grinding the metal too thin. I have done this in one or two spots already and needed to build it back in with weld.
What do I do next? There are some high spots and low spots but I dont want to take away anymore metal?
Do I start filling it and take it out far to get it smooth? What do I fill it with exactly?
Thanks in advance?
