Folks, it never ends. For those of you whom read my thread about the damaged flexplate, yesterday morning I got the call the new flexplate had arrived. The bad news is, that statement was followed by, "I discovered a green puddle under your car."

It could either be this water temperature sensor or a head gasket, apparently. The engine is a long block purchased from GM, so the same mechanic whom effed up the flexplate would not have had the opportunity to mess up the head gaskets. So I'm hoping against hope it's this sensor, below:

My engine is the GM 350/290hp version.

I apologize for my excessive caution for what seems to be a simple part order, but please understand what I have to deal with. I get the part name in Japanese, or a translated version of what the part would be called in Japan. I then order the part from a vendor in the US. I frequently pay more for shipping than the part itself, and it takes a least a week for the part to arrive. Then, if it happens to be the wrong part (which has happened), I'm stuck with it because its not worth paying the shipping costs back to the US to replace it on top of the shipping cost for the new part. On top of that, I'll have to wait another week for the correct part to arrive.

Getting information here helps to confirm what the vendor tech reps tell me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, there is so some of rubber belt that is supposed to go between the gas tank straps and the tank itself. Not present on my car. What is that belt called?

Many thanks in advance.

Bill - take a look at www.rockauto.com - drill down through the year, make and model, then cooling system and you'll find not only the sender but different manufactures part numbers.

They also let you change currency so you may find them shipping friendly on international orders...

I think that thing has gummed up threads too...someone cross threaded it when they installed it and over time antifreeze works up those threads and then leaks out. The threads in the block might also be compromised, check that before you mess the threads up further. It might have to be tapped again. :(

That would be pipe threads, wouldn't it Jim ?

Probably 3/8" or 1/2" pipe. I would chase the threads in the head before installing the sender.

Thanks, guys!

I've emailed your concerns about the bunged up threads to my mechanic.

My brother in law in Seattle has been armed with the pictures and will go to either a GM dealer or NAPA to get a replacement. He'll say "GM350/290hp replacement engine" and if the parts person insists on working with a model year instead, my brother in law will just walk away. Besides, IIRC, a 350 wasn't an option for the 1967, at least until late in the model year and mine's a OCT66 car.

I guess I wasn't clear enough in my previous post.

THE PARTS GUY NEEDS TO KNOW IF YOUR CAR HAS A TEMPERATURE LIGHT OR A TEMPERATURE GAUGE.

Also, the 350 was available in 1967, but this part is located in the cylinder head not the block. The engine size is irrelevant. It's the same for 6 cylinder, small block, or big block.

This part is so common you should be able to find it in stock in Japan

Hi Bill,

I don't know if these links will work in Japan but both of these companies can help with parts for your car. Go through the on-line catalogs and you can figure out part numbers and what you need.

I would think they can all ship Internationally.

The world is a much smaller place with the internet.

Good luck with your project

Thanks folks! Yup, I did remember to tell my b-i-l about the temperature gauge part. Did not even think to check in Japan, probably a good habit to get into for non-Camaro-specific parts.
