So I see Ebay is loaded with "NOS" Briggs and Stratton keys but they still dont look like my originals
heres a comparison:
if anyone has a extra set of NOS keys I would like to buy a set or 2

I have searches on ebay that I have checked twice a day for years on end. I also look at many others and find items that are incorrectly described that are just what I was looking for. Just because you can't find what you want immediately, doesn't mean it won't come up a few days later.

"NOS" parts often times aren't exactly the same as original parts. A more accurate description may be "NORS", new old replacement stock.

In my opinion, no they are not quite like my originals, there is an extra line around the "knock out" on my OEM key
additionally the font is different,, thinner on those "NOS" ones

Totally agree and understand, I'm just wondering if the same applies to Briggs and Stratton Keys as well!

My suggestion is look for an older established lock smith. When I was looking for keys for my Chevy ll that's what I did. He had tons of them. Might be the same key. Mine were Briggs keys too. The shop was called coffeys locksmiths. In Newport News Va. They may work with you over the phone or Internet.

NOS parts not Original parts. They were parts produced as replacements. A NOS fender is not the same as an original production line fender etc.

With keys the buyers didn't care if it looked exactly like the originals so long as they matched in shape and functionality.

To add to that from a locksmiths perspective. I can buy aftermarket chip keys for GM cars for less than $10 each from three or four manufacturers. My supplier doesn't carry OEM Gm keys. I can buy a Mazda key for less than ten bucks or an actual Mazda key for $45. I'm going to double or triple the cost of the key and add programming to that cost. Makes that Mazda key hard to sell if I use OEM.

I think that is why you are having trouble locating the correct match on those old keys. Nobody had them when they were new. I don't know how you feel but I'm not willing to spend $45 on an OEM key for my old car as no one will ever see it and a $3 key will do the same job and wear out over time just like the expensive ones.

Well thats the difference in a 1000 point correct car and some joker who takes shortcuts
I want ALL OEM items, period. I realize tires aint happening and some other bits and bobs
but if its humanly possible to obtain the correct item then I want it,,I dont care what it costs
I want it right and thats just how I am

Briggs and Stratton provided blanks to GM, so somewhere, someone has to have a pair of old Assembly line key blanks and I want 'em

correct, those are VERY close in all regards but the words "knock out" are indeed missing......:crying:
