After reading countless posts and internet blogs on the subject I decided to install my own windshield using urethane and a foam dam. I dry fitted the windshield about 20 times, varying the thickness of some small runner blocks until I got the height of the windshield perfect all around so that the the trim snapped in and was nice and flush. When I was satisfied that I had done all I could do to promote success it was time to install the windshield.
I primered the windshield channel and cut the nozzle on the urethane to the exact specifications of the instructions to create a half inch tall "cone" of urethane. But, when I went to install the urethane it did not dispense right. It came out in a thin and tall ribbon instead of the pattern I expected to see. But what do I know? I was following the directions to the letter. In any case, when I went to install the windshield I did not get a good "squish" anywhere. There just was not enough product on the windshield and when it was installed there were a lot of air gaps around the perimeter. As the urethane started curing I began to panic and started trying to add more urethane and tool it in to fill the voids. In doing so I made a huge mess. I must have used two rolls of paper towels trying to clean the goo off of the A-pillars and header moldings. I finally ran out of urethane and now when I shine a flashlight from inside and under the glass I can see light shining through in several areas.
I need to fill these areas and I'm wondering if I can purchase more urethane and go back and add more to seal these slight openings. I don't know how easy it will be to find the same brand and style of urethane or if it's even necessary to do so. As it is now it will leak water into the cabin if not fixed. Any recommendations on how to proceed? Thanks, and sorry for such a long post.
