ZZ1 or ZZ3

When I purchased my 69 Camaro, I was told it had a ZZ3 engine in it. I have the paperwork also showing that. The engine block # is V0701ZZ1, Chevy p/n 10185025, purchased in 1991.

I wasn't aware that Chevy even made a ZZ1 engine until I was looking for some parts for my ZZ3.

Can anyone tell me by the block # if it's a ZZ3 or ZZ1.

I would think that if the block # ends in ZZ1 then it is not a ZZ3. Could be that the previous owner upgraded the ZZ1 with some ZZ3 parts (heads, cam etc.) to make it just like the ZZ3. That would be hard to prove though...

Found out from Chevrolet that all the blocks are the same. Just the cam and heads are different between the models. They didn't start restamping the block until ZZ4.
