Was there a factory built SS/Z28? Watching last years Barrett Jackson and one came across the stage supposably with factory documentation.

This is off of the CRG site:
Q: What major option packages were available on the Camaro?

A: The Camaro could be ordered in either Convertible or Hardtop models with the following major packages:

Base - standard suspension, lower performance engine options.
SS - Super Sport: upgraded suspension, higher-performance engines.
RS - Rally Sport: an appearance package that included hideaway headlights and special trim items. Available in combination with any of the other packages.
SS/RS - A combination of the SS performance package and the RS appearance package.
Z-28 - A special factory road-racer version of the Camaro. When the Z-28 was first offered in mid-1967, it was created to compete with the Mustang in the Trans-Am road-racing series. (Unlike fourth-generation Z28s, the first-generation Z-28 package could not be combined with the SS package.) The Z-28 was also not available in the convertible body style, although one '68 Z-28 Convertible was built on special order for a GM executive; it still exists today, and is worth its weight in gold.
Z-28/RS - A combination of the Z-28 special high performance package with the RS appearance package.

This guy claimed to have a factory built sheet....I don't believe it but stranger things have happened.

gotta say no on that one.....no such animal...

X2! I've never seen nor heard of such. If they have docs I'd be really suspect about them.

IMHO, combining the SS and Z28 would have been counter productive. Sort of like wearing a belt when you've got suspenders on.

gotta call your bluff..gm has no record of that, are you sure somebody didnt do that themselves?? if you bought it new it was a mix up..gm has no record of that and no replacement parts avail. maybe thats how they did it in ca...

Bill - read what I said the car had under hood badging and the logo sewn into the floor mats. A quick google and you will see many of the cars refered to as Z28SS' SLP took the Z28 from the factory and created the SS from them. As I told you in reply to your PM I owned one. They also had a numberd plack from SLP and a matching numbered key fob with Z28SS on it. My car was titled as a 1996 Camaro not SS or Z28 or Z28SS...

Here's a 1999 reprint of the orig edmunds 1996 Z28SS test drive...

Notice they go back and forth between Z28SS and SS, it's a good read too...

And sorry my PM inbox is full so I missed your last reply... I will have it cleande up a bit shortly... Ok made some room for more PM's

dennis that blew my mind.......my bad....never ever seen anything like that before..was the car made in ca. did you buy it in ca.?...i forwarded that to all my know it all buddies that said you were full of it......I STAND CORRECTED, SEND ME BACK TO TEAM CHEVELLE!!! (LOL) P.S IT WAS A GOOD READ..THANKS FOR THE INFO.........

Bill the '96 Camaro was assembled in Canada and Z28's were rolled down the street to the SLP shop where they made SS cars out of them.

Watch out your buddies will tell you the newer cars don't count... ;)

Yep, 1996 was the only year thank goodness. But it continued to cause problems for a few more years. The title of our 1997 SS is listed as a Z28. This is very common because the cars came out the GM factory as a Z28, with a Z28 VIN, and were then sent over to SLP.

Anyone try to get insurance? I've been told there is no such thing as a 1997 SS. When we had a loan on the car, the credit union would only loan the value of a Z28, because the SS was not in the books.

I thought the subject was about 69 MY only.

It was/is, I offered up the '96 info as insight into the notion of a Z28 combined with SS and after someone else had provided the correct answer. I guess we all could have just posted X2, X3, X4...

I think he is talking about the one that was at BJ last January. It was a 69 and had both emblems on the front grill. There was a thread about it and if I recall there was an older picture saying it was factory.

Me too. Sorry, X5 and out!

That was a RS. not a SS. Well no telling what it really was. All the talk at the time was both emblems in the grill which shouldnt be
You are right about that. It was the "infamous" Rally Green Z that that there was much discussion about.
