Here is the story of the car relating to my life as a 20 year old and on. From Hemmings Muscle machines letters of the month

When I was 11 years old, my brother came home one day with a 1967 RS/SS 327 Camaro. From that moment on, I loved first-generation Camaros and decided I would have one some day. I've owned my 1969 Camaro for the last 23 years.

I was working at a deli in Bellmore, Long Island, and at the time I was driving another '69 Camaro that I was trying to restore. Its body was a mess but it had a very strong small-block.

A few stores down from the deli there was a kid working at a video store with a real nice black '69 Camaro. After the stores closed at night I used to try to get him to race my ratty looking '69 on our way home but he never bit. He kind of drove it like an old lady, no offense.

Awhile later he came into the deli and informed me that he was selling his '69. We argued over the price a bit, then he agreed to take my offer of $6,000. I spent the rest of the day scraping up every dime I could find to buy my dream car. My brother thought I was nuts for paying that much for it, mostly because I was only 20 years old and really I had no money. We laugh and cry about finding a '69 for $6,000 now.

After dating my girlfriend for awhile, I asked her to go for a drive in the '69. I had had my best friends hang signs on the main road near my house, like the old Burma Shave ads placed about a quarter mile apart. One sign asked her to marry me, and the last sign instructed her to open the glovebox where I'd placed the engagement ring. She said yes.

The ring box is still in the glovebox and will remain there for the rest of our lives. We have two beautiful boys now and we use the car with the family often. The boys help me work on it, too. I'll own this car for the rest of my life and one day my sons will have it.

The car was originally a 307 Power Glide with A/C. The rear end was upgraded to 3.42s from a '79 Z28, the engine was replaced with 375-hp small-block, a Holley 650 and Hooker Super Comps. We ran a TH-350 for awhile until last year when I installed a built 200-4R, which made a huge difference. The car still has its A/C.

'69's always look awesome in black! Love the white interior too... Definitely keep it that way. Good to see another Long Islander on here. I grew up out in Farmingville...:beers: Have fun with it and welcome to the site.

No she was a light blue with a blue interior I'm the third owner I believe, so the original owner must have painted it , he also put 327 badges on it and when I ran the numbers it's a 307 which is harder to sell around here, basically giving the motor away ( selling everything that's not nailed down to finance my tranny build up) he did put a real steel cowl hood on it though so that's good

Looks good... Clear it if you want to call attention to it underneath the car, or repaint it satin black to make it blend into the underbelly and keep it out of view. Personally, I like them out of view. I'd rather have my eyes be captured by nice wheels, chrome trim/tail pipes, or a sweet paint job.

Clear or black? :D

Been getting lots of great info on here lately. Just wanted to update my build thread

decided to go with a 200r4 that I found through a good friend

the servo is a sonax super hold with heavy duty clutch packs

went with the g force cross member

once the car was on the lift we realized the bushings, well some of them weren't there any longer and the others were shot.

went with energy suspension body bushings

ordered my tv cable, lock up wiring dip stick inspection cover and 2400 stall from bowtie overdrives. Shift conversion I bought a few years ago from shiftworks

Cant wait to get the car back together. Might look to do the fi tech fuel injection by the spring too

Hi Mike,
I can bring the glass back from Spring Carlisle. I will either get the glass from CARS Inc. or Auto City Classics.

Thanks Ill be in touch,

Found rot where the holes for the bushings are purchased the plates to repair it and new cage nuts as two were totally wasted from Muscle car headquarters here in Long Island.

Also going through the parts we realized an important part missing in the tv system kit. The vendor is shipped it so were waiting. A few setbacks but hope to have the car back next week.

Cars all together just waiting on fine tuning the tv system and making sure the car is shifting at the right pressures. Should have it back next few days can't wait

Had this set of armrests laying around NOS with nice pads for the last 10 years. Put them on ebay figuring ill use the money to put toward buying repros. After getting no bids and seeing the prices of repros I decided to take a shot at restoring these and changing the colors

Took them apart and cleaned it thoroughly with alcohol. I didn't use adhesion promoter

sprayed the bottoms and edges first

let them dry good between coats

looking foward to getting them on the car. Should have her back tomorrow night.

Went to pick up the car not ready yet. Tv system adjustments still needed. We changed the oil pan gasket and she was pissing oil all over the place. After dropping the pan we realized the 1 piece rubber gasket was defective. Replaced it with a new one and the leak is gone. Should have her back later today.

I absolutely love the 200r4 car is much more responsive and definitely faster than before. Very nice on the hwy. however still leaking oil so that's still got to be addressed. It's up by the passenger side head and behind the motor up top is wet too. Going start with the passenger side valve cover gasket ( replaced the driver side already ) then the intake manifold gasket. Motor is pristine inside and has few miles but it's still old so I guess the gaskets are shot
