I am about to wire my starter on a project that I have been working on for 5 months. This is a start from scratch car. I have 3 wires that bundled together running to the starter area. I get the puprle goes to the on post, the other two are red and yellow. Any ideas? These are seperate from the larger wire coming from the battery. I got that one already. At least one of the 3 wires must be for something else. ??? Ted

Yellow wire is coming from the ballast resistor. If you are running an after market ignition, ie MSD you dont need this wire.
If you are running a stock ignition, coil and distributor then the ballast resistor is a porcelin fixture with a wire in it. It should go pink 12V ignition wire to ballast resistor, yellow wire from the BR to the solenoid (R). A wire should also come from the downstream side of the BR and go to the + coil.
The red wire is a 12V battery wire. Goes to the battery post on the solenoid.

Word of warning about the yellow wire on a 67. Even though you may have an HEI that runs off a full 12V, some 67 ingition switches did not keep the IGN feed hot while cranking. Check it out and if 12V disappears while cranking you may still need the yellow wire between the iginition power feed and the starter 'R' terminal. If your ignitions switch is an aftermarket unit, you probably won't have a problem since I think all the repos work the way 68+ switches did. Just be sure to check IGN in the crank position with a volt meter.
I swapped a v6 for a v8 hei. Installed new AAutoWire engine harness all wired properly. So when I turn key to on position, the starter turns, engine cranks but starter continues to turn. Swapped out switches with same outcome. All answers welcome!
My thoughts are it needs a different solenoid, one with two small posts. Yellow wire has full time power and tied with purple wire therefore starter stays engaged.
As suggested purple wire goes to S terminal for energizing the solenoid. The yellow wire is for ign power during cranking. You may have to wire in a relay for the ign power function during cranking and goes away when ign key is released.

KORNAPOST, Start a new thread. The original post here is from 2009 and it's going to get confusing. Include the year and model of your car as you stated V6. No 1st gen Camaro came with a V6.
