Yesterday was morning at the dentist, parts run, and I dropped parts at Bates Tech afterwards. Did my fellow students or teachers say "hey George...half day FRIDAY but ya don't need to come in...." nooooo

so up early, to class on time, nobody there...teachers chuckled...will work on Camaro some then go home to see the visiting grandkids and daughter. Already pissed off, door was supposed to be tightened the other day while I held it. So whilst installing a rubber bumper back of door to prevent paint on paint touches, the door moved....then I somehow managed to rub front of door on rear of fender.

ok, easier to install springs to diff like this

getting ready for fuel line fun

repro 2 1/4 exhaust...omg, left the bag with exhaust clamps in the S10 that I loaned my son in law

Image

went to Jeff's FORDPOWERJOKE now brother Joe's 67 ragtop across the shop for install hints. hmmmm, not in the stall but in the primer booth

rear part of brakelines in, no fuel line routing. will look at the AIM

links to good vid or thread on this would be appreciated. Looked for but have not found anything. Wish Jeff had his 68 Daily Driver beside me for reference, would make reassembly a snap :D

SIL Thad used to live down the road in Fife, WA. Now Augusta, GA
Teach didn't want us there, a catch-up day for them.

Kids were out of the house by the time I got home. I threw some paint on the 327 as the sun was (kinda) out, at least not raining. One good coat, now off to work. No rest for the weary.

come to think of it, the WP it had on it had the temp sensor top center. It had 1964 Power Pack heads on it when I bought it.
need to pull the dvr side plug, side of head.

Your car is looking great George! You have to get it on the road for some cruising around this summer. Just don't park too close to my 68 6cylinder.. you are going to make mine look like a POS...LOL

PS... thank you very much for keeping the photos of my brothers car coming. I am very excited to see the ol'67 rag coming together as well. Who knows, I may just make him an offer some day he can't refuse and have her back in my shop....You never know!:noway:

I have the main fuel line in, more or less. Arse-up on jackstands, rear out, I snaked the front of line in between the firewall and subframe at around a 70 deg angle then worked the rear of the line closer to the car until I hit jackstand. With the jog of the line, was able to get a floorjack with towel under the rocker and pinch to lift the area above the jackstand enough to slide the fuel line over. Then lowered the floorjack.

Hmmm, need to replace a few of the fuel line clips. These got crushed somewhere along the way. Next up, brake lines. Brought a 12-bolt 3-way brake line diff mount from the house. Will tidy-up the front part when the fenders are off later this week, also front-cross brake lines to be installed. Sure wish Biscay's had reminded me about fuel tank anti-scuff pads when I was there the other day....

Realized all the detail cleaning is greatly slowing down my progress. Gotta get the wt in the car, get it together then striped soon! Rear brake backing plates will get a quick cleaning then onto the car. Hate to do then re-do but I am crawling here instead of running! Lots of winter projects ahead like Al 'BPOS' does each winter

so ya check and double check, but overlook something from time to time

Eddy C4B intake from my stash....does not have bracket provision

Image

seems like it has nose like Chic's Z28 intake for water bypass hose

Image

I 'could' use Z28 alternator brackets I suppose
this Eddy intake has a hole for the oil fill tube, it tilts to the passenger side for some reason

So the Eddy C4B did not work out due to the alternator bracket issue.
I removed it, did a test install of the Iron Q-Jet intake. With gaskets, it did not set right, too wide, head bolts would not fit both sides. So, either shave the intake (no), remove the heads, put on a stock head gasket (hell no!), or try to elongate the head bolts...or combination of the above. No Way.
Needed some home upgrade assistance from pal Scott, tri-five and gasser kinda guy. So picked him up midday from his place, poked through his stash of 327, 283, and early Hemi parts. Found an Eddy C3B. Alt bracket thing looked correct so I dragged it home. Hmmm, no Coil mount provision but I think I can work around that.

Pic from this afternoon
Looks like a mild warm-up from back in the day coming together
Those who know me well would suspect a wolf in sheep's clothing (and not be disappointed)

The 'Eddy' C3B/BX is a better intake than the C4 series anyway

Looking  George.

Paint is Chevy Orange Red, DupliColor High Heat engine paint. Inside the garage color is way different than natural light.

Wondering what this will sound like, Z28 repro 2.25" exhaust set, no resonators. I'll be hanging exhaust tomorrow.

so was the spring not curled-up enough at the end when built (cut short, made Friday at quitting time) or did it open up with use? All new bolts are greased or got anti-sieze as appropriate for whoever next takes the diff out

They fatigue crack, break clean through, the leaf slides forward on the bushing and the wheel is seen as off center in the wheelwell. Last job had this same problem. Look at another spring and you'll see a full wrap.

As Scott said, they crack/fail in that high fatigue area quite often.
That area of the spring is highly loaded during acceleration and on braking ...
There has been some discussion centering around the variable heat-treat in that formed area causing it to be brittle ...

I have seen a few over the years, but as that whole 'Rust' thingy is rarer down this way, not a bunch of them.
I did one from a car that was brought in from Colorado years ago that had been welded to repair it  - there was a real accident waiting to happen ...
A set of JCW springs fixed that :beers:
