Mike,
Did not check to see if it is a V8 car. It was and automatic but comes with a 4 speed. I don't really care, it was a Frost Green/ Green Standard so it is a made up car. Looking for a BB for it and a 12 bolt. Get well and hope the nurse doesn't cause too much pain!!!!!

Engine build looks good Mike - and how did the Op go? Are you Mr Titanium now??

So approximately how much coin would one have to spend to purchase all of the "correct" paints for a complete resto? just curious.... Whew!-- that's alot of paints!

hey todd, there are really only about 5 or 6 finishes in total. 3 blacks, 2 phosphates, and some natural finishes, other than body colour. makes it easy, that is for sure. the list really helps as well. sure is helping me make sure i am not all over the map. just depends if you mix the paint yourself or have a source. i went with sam trim black for the 30 percent gloss. 60 percent was mixed by the body shop. some semi gloss was done by the powder coater. natural finishes were done with several methods, from 3M pads, to glass beading to reverse electrolysis to parts washer. phosphating is easily done as well if you ca boil water. its just time consuming detail work. so far i am pleased with all the results.

Update July 21, 2012

Since I am laid up with just one wing, I am using this time to collect more parts. Here are a few more updates.

Here is the intake after glass beading. I filled all of the intake runners and any other openings with rags and then sealed them up with cloth gaff tape to prevent any media from getting inside. Same process was applied to the harmonic balancer and water pump as well.

I like how they turned out. Next they go into primer and await paint.

Heads are installed with a thin gasket for better quench. I will post specs at some point.

I decided to go with stock 1.5 rockers as well as the stock 30/30 solid cam. I will post those specs as well when in get the info from Jack, the engine builder. We discussed the build and the options and we decided to build a reliable old school motor that will sound right, look right and be reliable. Also trying to get the build done on a minimal budget. I went with the 350 LT1 because it is very similar to the 302 and will also look the part for the Z28 clone project. It should perform fairly similar and it shares all of the same components and accessories perfectly. The only give away that it is not a 302, will be the engine pad stamp.

Carb will be a Holley 780 CFM VS List 4053, using the cowl hood air cleaner as well.

Looks good Mike - what valve springs are you using?

Not sure on all the specs Tim. I will get all of the specs from Jack and post them soon. Ever since getting injured I am farming out as much work as I can afford, since I won't be able to do any wrenching for a while.

Mike, you are the man but you need to stop talking about a budget. I don't think you have a budget. That is a nice car and only getting better. Looks like you are feeling better. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Terry. Too funny! lol. I do feel a bit better 3 weeks later. I can't wait to be able to pick up where I left off. Anything new with your car? It turned out amazing IMO. Inspiration for me indeed. I hope to get my car done by next spring. That is my goal.

Update July 23, 2012

Here are the specs for the cam we went with. We are building this motor as close to original stock as possible, no roller rockers, hydraulic cam or roller cam here. Hopefully it will perform well. There are so many different options and ways to go with an engine, build, but sticking to stock should help achieve a similar to stock feel for the impostor build. I am hoping that this motor will give me a better performance than the 302. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Making sure that the intake is flat and provides a good fit on the heads.

Refinished flywheel. Motor is balanced.

Block is an original bore truck block with 4 bolt main bored 30 over. I had considered the idea of doing a DZ clone block stamping, and even thought that a decked pad was an option, but since this is a straight up clone, I figured, best to leave everything as is is so it presents exactly like it is. This way all the numbers everywhere will tell the true story, all of which can be verified.

Water pump and harmonic balancer in primer. Final paint soon.
