this topic is about the heater, core rubber gasket, installation, and position thereof.

Someone who can verify and can confirm the orientation and correct position of the rubber gasket?

I have tried every position possible from the cut form of the rubber gasket. It appears to me that the rounded pipes the gasket is meant to lock in protruding the firewall.

My heater core gasket is just flat the tubes stick through. I don't see anything wrong with the one you have if it also wraps the tubes some.

My heater core is a replacement I got at rockauto. I used the same gaskets that were in the car as they seemed relatively new. My replacement heater core otherwise fits and works fine.

I need to go back through my invoices. possibly Ricks, or parts geeks (their return policy. they sent me a different starter than what I ordered with a note about them upgrading it.. it didn't work no matter what. So I called the company and I got them to take it back, but they only refunded the purchase cost and I had to eat all the shipping cost and return shipping cost. after it's all said and done. I should've just kept the damn part and sold it myself. So. beware. )

IIRC, You would install the rubber/foam gasket onto the heater core tubes first (prior to installing the heater core box inside the vehicle)... with the two protruding "bumps" positioned into the heater core... with the flat portion of the foam gasket facing up from the heater core and going up against the inside of the firewall when the heater box (with the heater core) is installed.

In other words... the foam/rubber gasket is installed upside-down in the photos in post #1.

Gasket goes on tubes inside the suitcase, not on firewall side.

If the gasket OP has, installed inside suitcase, has some protrusion out of the firewall surrounding the tubes some, that's OK. However still need enough exposed tube for heater hose and clamp to go on.

My gasket was just flat and is installed inside the suitcase. The heater hose on firewall side almost butts up against the firewall on engine side.
