Hi everyone,

I have been rubbing my eye which now is closed shut, also no BS. I was scratching my privet area as i was sleeping and then waking up doing so.

Well i got up to take a shower to discover my eye was closed up from being swollen and my privet area was swollen as well.

My wife stripped the bedings and all the towels in both bathrooms, disinfected to toilets and any thing i touched.

Ive never had poison oak before and will call the Doctor to find out what i can do to get over quickly. This kinda sucks and by the way this had to happen on Sunday so the wife is ok,

go to the docs and get a shot and take some benadryl...if it was in other areas you could of used bleach but where you got it, nope that wont work!

I've had bad poison oak and I've had a broken leg on two separate
occasions. I'll take the broken leg every time. Get to a doctor and get some serious meds.

A few years ago I got into some pretty bad poison oak. Had it all over my arms and stomach. I went to a dermatologist who gave me samples of this topical steroid foam called Olux Foam. This stuff was amazing as it greatly reduced the itching and swelling.

I like that idea on the WD-40 hahahah. im ready to stick this thing in a bucket of cool whip, just to cool it down. I'm just about ready to just do a walk in at my Dr. and get that steroid shot you guys are recommending. I think im getting worse even as far as breathing, but i don't want to freak out my wife.

rub some of sparky's peppermint shine all over the affected area's!!!!

Doctor-In-A-Box if you have to to get the shot if you're allergic.
Steroids work very well.
Calamine lotion to relieve the itch on the skin.

I know what you're going through, been there myself and it is NOT fun - especially in the groin.

try regular tooth paste for your southern parts, just make sure it is regular. It helps dry out the oils from the plants. I've been there and done that after fishing in the winter getting "fire wood" to keep warm. Go take a pee, guess what, wood was covered in poision oak. No leaves no idea. good luck

I agree. I've had poison oak on several occasions. I've bathed in the soap, calomine, benydril..... It help with the symptoms. But the itching/redness never went away. I suffered for over a week trying the over the counter stuff. I went to the Dr. and got a shot. The next day was SOOO much better.

Poison Oak ain't anything to be fooled with! I just hope that you weren't burning any brush with these leaves in it. That's one of the worst things a guy can do. If you ingested any of this smoke...then the lungs can be infected to various degrees... so as some have indicated...get that prob with breathing looked after.

The oil, "urushoil" found on poison oak is so toxic, that a nanogram (billionth of a gram) could cause a rash on a person...an ounce of the stuff could do the same to everyone in America.

For the eyes and breathing see the DR asap Skip. From there look for a soap called Fels Naptha, it's the ticket for poison oak. You can wash your infected areas (except mouth and eyes) and it will stop it from spreading. You can use in on your clothing and bedding and it will remove it where other soaps might not!

Benadryl will help with the itch and swelling (it's alergy medicine) but see the DR first since you seem to be having a strong reaction. You don't want to cause complications or interfear with what the DR might give you...

Guys thanks for all the replys,

Just got back from Dr. They took me first in line as the two nurses and the Dr. said what took you so long. I said it just kicked in and last night in my sleep i was scratching my privets to the point it was waking me up, finally when i got up this morning to take a shower. I thought i was gifted WRONG.

So he gave me a 7 day packet called CADISTA MethylPREDNISolone Tablets, USP. He said its just like the shot... And some cream for my jewels. This realy sucks, my wife said i have to sleep on the coach for a week.

Thanks again TC members. You guys were very fast on this topic, i realy appreciate it great advice. Turns out my eye is swollen shut, my neck and chest is all broken out and my privets are out of control also behind my ear. My breathing was ok but my chest feels a little tight.

Now this is going to be all over the news, "TC Team Member takes Steroids" ;) I think that's an anti-inflamatory and is used for respiratory problems too. Makes sense if you got it in your lungs...

Get the Fel's soap and your wife can stop worrying and let you back in bed...

I have been on and off here at TC because i ride enduro's, dirt bikes full throttle its awesome.. Hit the deep forest is like paradise:thumbsup:.

I deal with poison IVY and poison OAK on a daily basis in the summer I work out in the mountain's and the stuff is everywhere , IVY ain't tooo bad but OAK now that stuff is tough to deal with , in the summer if you see a poison oak vine with nice DEEP DARK GREEN leave's on it and it is humid outside you can stand back and see a VAPOR comming off it ! the only thing I have found that will stop it is grease YES GREASE if I notice it on my arm's or leg's ( WHICH IS WHERE I GET IT ) I rub grease from my company grease gun on the itchy area , I weedeat all day everyday all summer and the weedeater chop's the poison up and throw's it on me , I wear glass's but it get's on my clothe's and mainly my arm's and leg's , the grease will STOP the itching in about 10 minute's and it is gone completly in about 2 hr's , but of course you can't do this if it get's in your eye's ,, good luck ,,,

Thanks everyone,

I'm going back out this Sunday, yes this Supper Bowl Sunday for more of a beating. I love to ride cant get enough. I didn't even see the poison oak trees or leaves as i was blasting right threw the vines. I guess its gonna be one nasty season for poison oak, especially this early in the year.

Yep, just got rid of it, in one of the same places NOTHING worked but the steroids, DO NOT use any over the counter meds, including medicated soaps "down there" unless the Dr. says so...learned the hard way...added about 3 weeks to my painful recovery!!
