What's missing that should be connected to my kickdown lever?

I'm posting this in Engines instead of Transmissions since this is part of the carb linkage system. Delete it and I'll repost in the other category if necessary.

Kickdown stud on the same site as Roger linked to.
Well, I received this stud and it is too large to fit in the slot on the kickdown rod. The diameter of this stud is 0.187 which is 3/16. The original rod - and the new, longer rod I obtained - only accept up to 5/32 or 0.156. I do notice in the old photos of the SBC kickdown that the stud is a ball stud, which is not actually the correct way to do it. I'd rather come up with a 5/32 stud so I won't have to resort to the ball stud.

Yeah I've been reading in the tranny forum and the 4 bbl rod is about an inch longer than the 2 bbl rod -- Mine won't adjust enough to connect. When the rebult PG was installed in the car the guy who did it left an un-connected 2 bbl kickdown rod hanging. I'll have to round up a 4 bbl rod and get it right. Or just manually downshift when I want to -- but I'd rather have it factory-correct.

I bought the longer rod from Ricks. I also just got the "post" (Summit) Alan noted for that lower hole and just used a small (about 1/2" long piece of metal flat stock with 1/16" hole at one end and hole pig enough to go over new post end I sandwiched on the carb side of that lower lever hole to secure the spring that is currently using it

I can snap a pic if you need it but basically a way to secure the return spring as the new post occupies that hole

My return spring is in the large hole that the new stud will occupy - but there is a much smaller hole just next to it that the return spring should actually be in at present. That small hole might not exist on all carb throttle controls, as I see there are a couple of variations. When I install the stud in the large hole I'll move the return spring to the small hole and should be OK. I'll need to experiment some with the kickdown adjustment. I don't want to be pulling on the kickdown rod every time I accelerate but will need to figure out how much that rod needs to move before it actually engages the kickdown.

I see the longer rod available at a couple of different sources, which is good. The Assy Manual actually shows the short rod as the correct part for all 327s, but we know that's incorrect. The manual shows the longer rod for larger engines but should also state that any 4 bbl carb will need the longer rod.

Ball studs work as designed.
A 10-32 screw double-nutted works also.
Adjust carb for WOT first using assistance on pedal.
Then adjust kick down for max pull on stud.
This action will have trans upshift at 5500(?) RPM consistently within 0.05 seconds of multiple runs.

Just now realized the 10-32 screw is 3/16 and will be too large for the slots in the kickdown rod. A 9 might work, and a 8 would work for sure for the slot - but that gets pretty small for the hole in the carb throttle. Might have to go for a ball stud with 1/4 inch thread and workable stud diameter and ball diameter.

Thanks for the common sense suggestion. I might just do the screw and double nut. I'm not quite achieving WOT with the pedal to the floor, and I know there are a couple of possible causes for that. I'm not seeing anything loose in the pedal linkage around the firewall. I'll revisit that situation before I try to properly adjust the kickdown rod.
