Spare tire size

My car is nearing completion and I bought a restored jack and rim to use for a spare tire. The car has 225/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on it now but the restoration guy said the trunk won't close if I use that same size tire as a spare.

He suggested getting the same T/A tire but in 205/60/15, but he isn't 100% sure if that tire will fit either.

The rims are 15x7 rally rims, does anyone know what size BF Goodrich T/A tire I should use as a spare and not have any problem with the trunk hinge hitting the tire?

Thanks

It's a coupe, I suppose we could take a tire off the car and bolt it into the trunk and see if the trunk hinge clears the tire.

I guess the restoration guy is concerned because the 225/60/15 tires are wider then the stock 205/70 tires I think came on the car stock.

The tire might also sit higher in the trunk because the tire sits on top of the jack to hold it down

225/60/15 is 25.6" tall.

You could go with a 185/70/15 @25.2" tall or a 195/70/15 @25.8" tall.

The 195 will be 30mm or about 1.2" narrower than the 225. The 185 will be 40mm or about 1.6" narrower than the 225.

I was going to go with 195/70/15 but I don't think BF Goodrich makes T/A's in that size, atleast not that I can find. To get that size I think I would have to goto a 14 inch rim.
