Sun visor brackets won't cinch on bracket

I bought new sun visors along with brackets. The cinch screw on the brackets will not close in tight enough on the sun visor to hold it in place. I see other people had this problem in a thread search, and only found one temporary fix with electrical tape. Would like other ideas from folks on a permanent fix?

Either:
1a. Return to vendor and let them see/touch/feel the product and maybe they will remedy the problem.
1. Make the slice in the clamp bigger/wider,
2. Roll alum foil around the visor shaft then spread open the clamp before installing visor shaft.
3. Remove the shaft from the visor, add some weld filler material onto the end of the shaft, then dress the weld to fit the clamp.
4. Get a length of stainless steel rod from the home improvement store and make your own shaft to fit.
5. Duct tape the visor to the headliner.

Isn't there a plastic bushing between the shaft and clamp?

It has been a few years since I overcame that obstacle. I have Allen head cap screws in mine. They allow me to apply more force than the slotted head screws did. I know Allen head cap screws are not correct, but I don't have the sun visors drooping either.
If that doesn't work you could also apply Everett's #2 above.

I got plastic bushings with the set I bought and installed...The bushing goes between the shaft and clamp...Ground Up part #IBB-0753, sun visor support, comes with the screws and bushing...

My advice is to return them to the Vendor, and ask them to use the Sun Visors/Brakcets on their own Camaro. Remember these brackets are pot metal, and will snap if trying to make them wider, and also they are after market made overseas by workpeiple who more than likely have never even seen a1st Gen Camaro/Firebird, And yes there is plastic bushings that come with the kit, RETURN THEM TO THE VENDOR, and have them rrplace them, or send you one's that will work...............Good Luck, Max in Las Vegas, NV, Gold Lifetime Member....

I agree with Max to always let the vendor know when you have problems with parts and give them the opportunity to provide a better piece. Often they can't as it's a long process before retooling and better parts are on the way so sometimes you have to improvise.

This is quite common, I'm not sure if it's the post in the visor that is a smaller dia than it should be or if the bracket is at fault. Always use the plastic piece, it's part of the factory design.

From there just get a small thin sheet of alum from the hardware or model shop and with sizzors cut a piece to wrap around the visor post. Sometimes it will need a half wrap others a full wrap does it. Be sure not to cover up the slot for the screw and you'll be good to go.

I prefer this to tape or foil as a more permanent solution.

The plastic never helped with mine. I ended up re-doing my originals.

Something else that may work; if you have access to a scrap place or someone that does cold-working on aircraft, a 3/16 0r 5/32" cold working sleeve, would probably provide the friction you need in the clamp. I use to turn wrenches on A/C, the sleeves look almost identical to the plastic sleeves. Unfortunately, I no longer can get the used sleeves.

I ordered the plastic sleeve....not in yet, i'll let you know how it work out? I called the vendor and they said the sleeves are not part of the package even though the picture shows them and i received the sleeves that fit into the mirror? Now i have to deal with the door rear and front door panels i bought from classic (PUI brand) over a year ago and just getting around to putting them in. I tried a quick test fit and they didn't go in very well, both seem to be to long?? I think i need to get some help from a little more experienced person then me:eek: LOL my kids keep asking me if i'll get the car done before they graduate from college, and their only in 7th and 10th grade:sad:

Don, I just installed new sun visors, brackets, bushings, etc. They still didn't tighten down enough to keep them from flopping down in front of your face. Tom had to hold his visor up the whole time he was my passenger.

If you run into the same problem, I pulled the plastic bushing out and wrapped a single piece of electrical tape 95% of way around but left the small opening in the bushing, reinstalled them and now they are nice and snug.
