OK, we all know that 1968 was the best year for the Camaro. They got rid of the ridiculous wing windows and fixed the rear suspension from 67. They hadn't ruined the lines of the rear 1/4's like they did in 69...the list goes on and on. (Come on you 67/69 owners...you know in your heart it's true.:D)

So, I was at Radio Shack yesterday and they had this cool micro rc 67 Camaro. I've got a wood carved 69 on my desk. But you just never see a model, poster, etc. of a 68. It seems we're the bastard child of the first gens and just can't get no respect. It just ain't right.

Poor neglected middle child '68s.:( It's probably because of the increased usage of plastic and less detail in your interiors. Then there's the loss of wind wings and addition of those unfortunate, gov't mandated side markers...what a pity.:D
I had a 1/25 scale model of a '68 and '69 before I was old enough to drive, but I've never, to this day, found a 1/25 scale model of '67:noway:
Wind wings rule!

Davey, Davey... you trying to start a range war? Each year had their good points and bad ones....and I think that we all have a certain allegiance to the year we own, eh?

I will agree on the availabilty of product out there focused on the 67/69 year...but I guess the sales types thought that the middle kid was too close to the first born to warrant new dies/forms to be set up... and then when the third kid came along, he was just that much different to gain a new following.

Most out there (I hope?) know that you're kidding them. I figure that if ya own a Camaro of any year...you're one step ahead of the rest of the muscle car pack.

Although I own a 69 now.

But when I was 19 years old I went and looked at a 68 SS 396 that was for sale. When I got to the car the woman who owned it explained to me that it was special ordered by Big Daddy Don Garlitts, it was Gold with tan interior (not sure on the interior color, long time ago) anyway, could have bought that car for $4500. I was too young to realize...

Anyway...

That car, a 1968, was the reason I own a camaro today!

68's are awesome!

Wow '68 owners starting to act like some 2nd gen owners with the self pitty "mistreated step child" syndrome. ;)l:)

Wow, Dennis, I'm impressed. Your google search for "1968 camaro model" resulted in 10,774 links. Here's what I got changing 1968 to 1967 and 1969:
Search reuslts for 1967: 12,141
Search reuslts for 1968: 10,774
Search reuslts for 1969: 17,781

But what I found interesting is when following many of the 1968 links I found them to be mislabeled like this:
http://uniquehandmadecreations.stores.yahoo.net/camaro1979.html
(BTW, this is the wood model I referred to that is sitting on my desk)

I am surprised however at how many 68's there are. I guess I was basing my original comment on what I see when I'm out and about...not specifically searching for one.

OK, bastard child put in his place. I'll go to the corner now. :beers:

I looked at my own small die-cast collection first and I have 2 '68s and then wondered just how hard they were to come by since I got these at toys r us or the toy section at someplace like walmart or target. Google just made sense, I didn't even look past the 1st link figured it would ease your pain to know what you want is just a mouse click away... Why would you even care how many of the other years would come up? It's also a given a large percentage of what is returned in a search engine has no real relevance to the search... Try searching "1968 Camaro poster" to see that 1st hand.

But seriously though I think 1968's look really cool and much better than the middle child of the 2nd gen's (1974 - 1977) .

I guess I better come to the rescue!! All first gens are COOL! I prefer the lines on the 67 and 68 a bit better and also prefer a wind wingless look on the doors....................guess that's why I own a 68!! Not any better, just better for my taste.

When it comes to first gens, no disrespect at all. You're steps ahead of the rest just having the privilage of owning one!! Just enjoy!

For having no respect there sure are ALOT of people who say my 67 is a 68, and I HATE THAT !!!! but i dont show it .. I say "close" they they guess 69, and I say "NO"!!! ... then they ask well what year is it? I gotta remember that most people are not car people like us.

P.s Merry Christmas guys/gals

I've had a few tell me what a nice Mustang I have. Most ask if it is a '67. The rest want to know if it is a Z28 or SS. No, No, and No. Plane Jane standard coupe '68. Then they just say "oh" with a disappointed look. I'm sorry if my 40 year old car doesn't meet your standards. But just when my hopes are down, someone comes up and says "nice 68!" and my faith in car-guy humanity is restored.

Look, if it ain't a wing-window, it's just another wannabe by me!!

Kinda like how the '56's feel about the other two Tri-5's!

Hey! I have a ’56 Chevy and the ’57 owners think they are superior. Whatever.

All I can say is I am thankful that both my Camaro and Bel-Air have wing windows. ;):D
