This has nothing to do with any brand of carb being better so try to refrain from posting about q-jets, BGs or any other, thanks!

To get down to it, what's your fav Holley? Provide the List#, CFM, 4150/4160/4500, HP etc and if it's vac sec or mechanical, Sq bore/spread bore etc. If you want add to it what cubic inch it's feading and how you use it, ie; street/strip, track only etc but be brief. Also a short bit about why you like it.

Let's see if we can get a quick read on where we stand and see if there is any consistancy in what works.

Thank in advance...

Holley Competition Series 9380 850 CFM................

Features
  • No choke
  • Center hung float bowls
  • 30cc Primary accelerator pump
  • 50cc Secondary accelerator pump
  • Annular-style boosters
  • Mechanical secondaries
  • Four corner idle system
Used on my 648 HP 468 BB for the occasional trip down the 1/8th mile and lots of street cuising. I personally like the 4 corner idle adjustability. Carb can be seen in the engine pic in my signature.

I've had good luck with several 3310's 750 vac sec square bore Holley. On the other hand my 4779 750 man sec idled rich on any engine that I put it on even after tuning it.

Kind of a toss up between a 600 d.f. d.p. that I ran for years on a small block. I rebuilt it a couple of times but I had that carb since the 80's . The carb is still going strong on a friend's chevelle , that's a good one:thumbsup:

The other one that I'm running now is a 770 street avenger (other than a primary float that took on some gas and lost some of its bouyancy , and was acting like a sticking needle and seat that drove me nuts for a couple of day's ) this carb has been with me a few years now with no other issues , I really like the electric choke and the ease of secondary spring changes, Oh and it shines real nice too:D Both are 4150's

406 CI, street/strip auto trans 4:11 gears. 11.40 @ 117 with the old 750 demon.
Just switched to a Holley 4150 950HP built by pro systems from a Demon 750, still dialing it in but love it so far, crisp clean throttle response and great shift recovery. Amazingly the carb was not built for my motor but one close to it, and it works killer. Patrick from Pro systems is the man  .
As a side note, people freak out about the 950 rating, as most that are in the know will tell you it's the perfect carb for larger cube small blocks or smaller ones that will spin, because the 950 rating is fluff. They have larger throttle plates but same venturi as a 750, so they give great throttle response with better top end flow, they are really more like an 830.

Thanks for the compliments Dennis and Skip. The 70'Chevelle SS is what my wife wanted me to build for her.We showed the car 13 times in 2008 and it won 9 "best-in Show" and "Best Paint in the Show"at Superchevy in Va.She is so proud of it.I do this stuff (restoring rides) as a hobby here at home (except paint) on nights and weekends. This one (Chevelle) took about 2 1/2 years from start to finish.

the guys with the Double Pumpers can keep them.. AND pay for the gas.. :)
As for me, the 4053/3310 780/800 cfm single pump, vac secondary works very well on *most* nice street engines... and for a smaller/mild engine, the little 600 works fine!

4150. Mechanical secondary double pumper 750cfm. It's on a 388 stroker, 9.5:1 compression, roller cam, AFR heads, approx 500hp/517lb/ft tq. and a four speed with 3:73 gears.
I got the carb. from AED. It doesn't have a choke horn.

#4053, 780 CFM, square bore, vacuum secondaries, dual feed for my 302. Works fine in my book for cruising the highway or street. You just need the right cam and plenty of initial timing.
