Hey guys sorry for the slow response. I am happy to say that I have gotten the car running but it was a slow process to say the least. The hardest part to date has been getting my radiator re-cored. Someone on another thread recommended Classic Radiators/Cap-a-Radiator in Farmingdale NY and I could not be happier. They were able to get me a very close to original looking core, remove my top and bottom rails and use my original tanks and it now looks great. I also had my carb rebuilt by allstate carburator re-builders in Central Islip NY and they did a great job catering to my needs. I wanted to have the carb re-built but not re-colored or glass beaded. I am now in the process of making my smog pump which was frozen, into a non-operational unit. I also am starting to go over the entire car to make it road worthy as it has st for so long. The exterior is the same as when I bought the car but I do plan on working on that in the future. I wanted to thank all the people on this site for all the great advise you have given me over the past few years, you guys are awsome!!!!

Manny,
If you would like to keep any original finishes on bolts etc... invest in a product called Safest rust remover... we used it on almost everything and the original phosphate plating shows beautifully. Then keep it up with Boeshield (available at SEARS in the tool dept) or Cosmoline.

I second the motion on the Safest Rust Remover... that stuff is incredible. Expensive, but worth it.

Did you ever track down any of the old pics from the former owner?

When I bought mine (a couple of years ago) the only place you could get it wqs directly from them... they may have resellers now or distributors???

Here's their website:http://www.safestrustremover.com/

Two incredible about this thread, The first being that cars like this are still languishing in storage across the country waiting to be discovered by the right people, and #2, There are those that think he paid too much for the car? Original 69 Z28s must be really thick in other parts of the country...

Well there is one "expurt" who thinks the mileage is bogus and another who thinks he paid way too much according to "Old Cars" price guide. I looked at the pics and don't see the "caution fan" sticker or the Chevelle "Cowl Induction" emblems on the hood so I'm prepared to take it off your hands for 10K cash anytime you want to unload it. That's a really good deal since it's a bit more than the price guide says it's worth and needing paint & all... well.... Let me know... :D

Yeah it is amazing that people are still finding these cars like I did! I was just at the right place at the right time. As far as what people think the car is worth, at this point I dont think about that because I truly love this car!! I always dreamed of owning one that I would restore but finding a survivor car is way beyond my wildest dreams! I will be totally honest with you guys when I first found the car I had no idea of car values and had very limited knowledge on originality of these cars. That is the main reason why I even posted in this forum (What's it worth) i was just nervous.

I just saw this thread for the first time yesterday, read it from start to finish. Great find. You're one lucky SOB to get it. Usually when family members start complaining the sale falls through, at least that's been my experience.
I'm more of a semi-modified guy, but I wouldn't do a thing to this car except clean it up and drive it. Very, very nice.
