Well my buddy I sold my Lemans Blue 69 Z28/RS Tribute car to a couple years ago has been on and on me to do this swap for him.

He already has an awesome 355 Roller Motor and a TKO 5 Speed that runs perfect.

Well after months of telling him let's just add EFI I finally realized that he's never going to be happy until he has an LS3.

I told him I'd do it for him but he has to help.

So we bought the LS3 6.2L 376ci/480HP Engine package from Jegs and will start the swap after the 1st of the year.

I'll do a detailed build thread with picks and part #s for those interested.:beers:

Hey! That looks like my car! Oh it is! Can't wait John! And you're right, the engine that came out was nice, but an LS3 is awesome! Always wanted to do one and what a car to put it in!

From the outside it looks like a stock 1969 Z/28. but when you lift the hood........!!!!!! :hurray::beers:
Steve, that is going to a very nice upgrade for sure...and seeing what John can do with these cars it looks like you have all your bases covered. Are you going to leave the Corvette covers in place.....just asking?

I'll post the parts list and cost. I am using the existing TKO 5 speed. It's on it's way to liberty gears for a tune up. McLeod clutch flywheel (made to use with the small block bell housing) and hydraulic clutch master and slave conversion kit

We are using all new parts. GM Performance LS3 480 hp. GM accessory drive without AC. Holley AC bracket to accept the Sandon Compressor that was in the car from the Vintage AC install.

Dynatech swap headers that will clear the stock steering box. LS radiator with dual spal fans from a radiator shop I buy from and a Tanks Inc EFI fuel tank. I use one on my built LS7 and it works perfect. Also the quality is very nice.

Went with the GM performance kit. I think it was $1170. Includes the muscle car oil pan, wiring harness, ECM, all the senors inluding O2 sensors and MAF

Complete plug an play package specifically this LS3 so no tuning will b needed.

Based on my research it's the best bang for the buck.

I'm locating the motor in the exact same position as the 355 so the crossmember we have will work and the shifter will be in the exact same location.

Update LS3 6.2L 376ci/480HP Engine Install Thread

Still getting Parts together.

I'm using Dirty Dingo Slider engine mounts. They are adjustable from 1/2" back to 2 1/2" forward.

I'm installing the LS in the same (stock) position as the 355 was so I will be able to use the existing crossmember and the shifter will be in the exact same location.

These brackets will allow me to make fine adjustments if needed to make it all work perfect.

I'll post a complete parts list soon

I can wait for the next update, some questions already,

What bell housing? using a Hyd clutch and not the stock mech? what parts cost and photos.

It bolts right in to stock location? Great, so some motor mounts and what cross member?

Sorry just wanting to do this to my 69 and don't want to reinvent wheel when you have done it and have the bugs worked out.

Thank you so much...

some update pics

This is the Dirty Dingo Slide Mount. Allows you to adjust the engine to any location from, 1/2" back to 2 1/2 " forward.

I'm using the SB Bell housing/scattershield that was on the 355 along with the McLeod Flywheel that is machined to work with it. I measured the engine mount on the SB and set the LS swap mount so the bell will be in the exact same location in the car as it was with the SB. This will bring the shifter up is the same location as well as no changes to the crossmember or driveshaft.

The mount will let me adjust slightly if I need to for header or other clearance. So if I need a 1/4" either way it's easy to do.

I'll be test fitting the engine into the car next to check all clearances.

Installed the front accessory package. GM without AC and the Holley AC Bracket that accepts the Sanden AC Compressor that was on the 355. The Holley Bracket is cast and looks like GM Factory

The Oil Pan is GM "Muscle Car" which is actually the Hummer H3 Pan. The Engine came with a Corvette Pan

Had a great day yesterday.

Started off with a spirited drive in my car for inspiration then a test fit of the LS3.

Car had the 350 frame towers. (1 /1/2" frame to bolt hole center) These were too low and the pan was on the cross member.

I had anticipated this possibility and had a set of 307/327 frame mounts (2" frame to center of hole).

Set the motor in and good clearance all the way. about 1/4" pan to cross member.

The Dynatech headers have very good clearance. I'll post some pics later. I set the motor in the stock position so that the shifter, tranny cross drive shaft etc and go back as it was with the 355.

The engine could be moved 2" forward if a guy wanted too and the headers would still clear easily.

The headers hang a little lower then the Hooker Procomps we have on our other 2 LS 69s. When I install the tranny and tranny cross the rear will come up a little and we will have about 6" ground clearance. Car has 2" drop Hotctkiss on it.

Yes I am! We dropped the engine and new tranny in this past weekend. Fit's just like John said it would! Awesome! The shifter is in the same spot as before and the driveline all matched up!

I decided to upgrade to a new TKO600 5 speed tranny. This gives me another 100 foot pounds of torque over the old one. The delay on this project was the company we sent the tranny for inspection, sat on it for nearly a month before telling us it needed a complete rebuild. I decide enough of this and opted for a new out of the box TKO600.

I'm sure when John gets time, he'll post more pic's for you guys. I'm not much of a gear head but John's painfully turning me into one! LOL!! He and another buddy of ours have taught me a lot these past few months. I was beginning to wonder if I bit off more than I can chew, but it's all coming together now and I can't wait to start her up soon! :beers:

Good idea. We'll do some video.

I'll have some time today probably to post a parts list.

The new EFI Fuel tank from Tanks Inc. was delivered Friday. You can do an inline pump but they are noisy and more prone to failures. Tank looks great and installs with the same tank straps.

I use the C5 Corvette Fuel filter/pressure regulator mounted close to the fuel tank. It returns fuel to the tank before it runs to the engine bay so the fuel does not get heated. Makes for a neat installation and only cost about $40.

Here are a couple pics of the Dynatech Header installed.

They fit very well and clear the steering box and a-arms easily. We will need to use either 45* angle or multi and plug wire boots on #5 and #7

Don't mind the old fuel line on the pass side. It's going Bye Bye.
